The Openbank Aspar Team rider will start from fifth position in Sachsenring. Kevin Zannoni has been unable to set a time after suffering a crash
Alessandro Zaccone is on a hot streak and at the German GP he has achieved his third consecutive pole position. The Italian rider has set a time of 1:26.234, which is enough for him to start from first position tomorrow after beating Óscar Gutiérrez by just 62 thousandths, while the front row will be completed by Nicholas Spinelli. Openbank Aspar Team rider Jordi Torres has ended only 74 thousandths off that front row. The Spanish had been the fastest in the morning session in mixed conditions, but in the dry he has not managed to extract his full potential, something he hopes to do in tomorrow's races. Torres will start from fifth position on the grid at a track where he won last year and where tomorrow he will fight to repeat it to achieve his first victory of the season.
Openbank Aspar Team rider Kevin Zannoni has not had an easy day in Germany. The Italian had to compete in Q1, a round that has been conditioned by the crash of Kevin Manfredi, which has meant the season needed to be stopped to repair the protections. With only two and a half minutes left, the bikes have returned to the track. Zannoni needed to improve his time to enter Q2 and, in his last lap, he has achieved it. However, in Q2, the Openbank Aspar Team rider has been unable to set any time after seeing his first two laps cancelled and suffering a crash when he was starting the third. Zannoni has had to go to the medical centre for a contusion on his left knee and right wrist and will be checked again tomorrow by the circuit doctors before the races. If the Openbank Aspar Team rider receives the fit from the doctors, he will start from tenth position. Zannoni will fight to get back on the podium and close the gap with the MotoE leader, Mattia Casadei, who has also suffered a crash and will start from eighth place.
5th Jordi Torres 1:26.529 (+0.295): “I have a good feeling with the bike, we have found a pretty good set-up. In the morning, in mixed conditions I was one step ahead, but in the dry I am a few tenths away. I think we are capable of taking that step forward, although today we have not shown our full potential. If tomorrow we do not have any problems, we will be in front.”
10th Kevin Zannoni (no time): “It has been a difficult qualifying. I was fast, but on the first lap there has been a yellow flag. On the second lap I have made a mistake, although I have been able to stay on the bike. And on the third lap my rear wheel has blocked and I have suffered a crash. I am sore, but I will do my best to compete tomorrow.”
