The Openbank Aspar Team travels to Torres’ fav track with all to play for

The results of the Dutch Grand Prix have tightened the standings, and three points separate a top 3 that includes Kevin Zannoni

Three points, three race weeks, three riders. The weekend in Assen left a very tight situation in the MotoE World Championship standings: if Mattia Casadei left Italy with six points over the second, Openbank Aspar Team rider Kevin Zannoni, and 35 over the third, the situation changed radically after the leader’s crash in the first Dutch GP race. Those six points over Zannoni became two, and the 35 over Óscar Gutiérrez were reduced to just three. The shortlist can even be expanded and become a quartet that includes Héctor Garzó, who achieved his first victory of the year in Assen and is 11 points off the leader.

All of them complete this week the second double of the MotoE season with the German GP. Sachsenring, Jordi Torres' talisman circuit, was the scene of his first victory in the World Championship in 2013, eleven seasons ago. The Spaniard repeated his victory a decade later, again with the Aspar Team, although this time in the electric category. Now, that is again the goal for the Openbank Aspar Team rider, who faces a Grand Prix for the first time this season after having been on the podium in the previous race. Torres' third position in the first race in Assen allows him to relieve himself of the pressure just before the visit to the German track. There, Kevin Zannoni will try to return to the podium after having been three consecutive weekends in the podium before competing in the Netherlands. The Italian needs to score as many points as possible before the summer break and the final stretch of a championship that will travel to Austria in August before the curtain drops in San Marino, at the beginning of September.

Kevin Zannoni: “I was hoping to do better in Assen, but luckily, with no time to rest, we already have another race weekend. The MotoE standings are very tight and this complicates everything, but our objective will once again be to obtain as many points as possible. We are going to a circuit that I don't like very much, but that is one more motivation. We will work to be at the front and fight to return to the podium.”

Jordi Torres: “In Assen we got the first podium of the year and now we arrive at our usual talisman circuit. Perhaps at Sachsenring we will have more opportunities than at other tracks. There, the bike has always allowed me to brake late and have good corner speed, and since this track doesn't have very long straights, that benefits me. The objective in this Grand Prix will be to be able to show everything that we have not been able to show yet this year.”
