Podium lockout for Power Electronics Aspar Team at Le Mans

Kevin Zannoni and Jordi Torres start the MotoE season on the podium, in second and third place respectively

The Power Electronics Aspar Team started the MotoE season in the best possible way. Kevin Zannoni and Jordi Torres climbed the podium in the second race of the French round, in second and third position respectively, and after Zannoni led for much of the race. With these results, Kevin Zannoni is second in the overall standings, and Jordi Torres fifth. In addition, the Power Electronics Aspar Team leads the team standings by eight points.

After a long wait, the MotoE season has started this weekend at the Le Mans circuit. Jordi Torres and Kevin Zannoni completed qualifying sessions yesterday in which both riders secured a place on the second row of the grid. On this day, two exciting races awaited them to fight for the top positions. Zannoni was very consistent in both races. In the first race, the Italian was close to the top 3, but with only four laps to go after the race had been interrupted earlier, he did not have time to move up from fourth position. Zannoni went into the second race determined to improve his result and took the lead after the first few corners. The Power Electronics Aspar Team rider led for several laps until Mattia Casadei overtook him for the win. Zannoni held on to second place for his first podium of the season.

Torres also had a positive Saturday after starting from sixth on the grid. The Spaniard made a good start in the first race, although he lost some positions in the first race. The Spaniard maintained his position until he was seventh, and it was in the second race when he showed his full potential. Torres stayed in the top positions and overtook rivals until he reached the podium spots, although the gap to his teammate was too wide to catch him. Finally, Jordi crossed the finish line in third to take his first podium of the year.

Kevin Zannoni (4th / 2nd): “I'm very happy, especially because I have a very good feeling with the bike. We didn't start the pre-season in the best way in this respect, but the team worked hard to fix it. We found the solution and I feel comfortable and I can fight for the front positions. The second race was difficult because the bike was sliding a lot, but then Mattia overtook me and I preferred to hold the position because it is an important result for the championship.”

Jordi Torrres (7th / 3rd): “Le Mans is a circuit that I love and where we have had good results in the past. We came here with the work done, the team pushed me a lot and we worked on the bike to be as comfortable as possible. Right now, I have some problems, but we know where they are and we are working to be more competitive. I lost a few tenths to be in front, but especially the second race was about survival. Lap by lap we got closer and getting back on the podium is always a pleasure. It's a gift to the team for supporting me so much.”
