MotoE faces its final stretch with a very tight fight for the title

Openbank Aspar Team rider Kevin Zannoni is fourth in the World Championship, 32 points off the leader, and in Austria he will seek to reduce the gap

MotoE is ready to face the final stretch of the 2024 season. The electric category has only two events left to complete its calendar: the Austrian GP this weekend and the San Marino GP, the first week of September. After the first six Grands Prix of the year, everything is still to be decided. With four races left, 100 points are still up for grabs and anything can happen, as only 32 points separate the top four in the World Championship. Héctor Garzó went on holiday as the MotoE leader after shining in the German GP, where he won both races. The Spanish has a 25-point advantage over the second-placed Mattia Casadei, and 29 over Óscar Gutiérrez, who is third. Openbank Aspar Team rider Kevin Zannoni lies in fourth position, 32 points off the leader, after a difficult weekend in Germany, in which he competed injured. The Openbank Aspar Team is also fighting for the teams’ championship title and is third, just 13 points off the leader.

The Openbank Aspar Team is heading to the Austrian GP with its batteries charged. After more than a month off, Kevin Zannoni has had time to recover from the injury suffered in qualifying in Sachsenring and is arriving with high aspirations in the Red Bull Ring, a track that suits his riding style very well. The Italian achieved his first pole and first podium in MotoE last season in the Austrian track. In fact, he finished third in both races. This weekend, the Openbank Aspar Team rider will be looking to get back on the podium and thus obtain two good results that would allow him to close the gap with the leader and arrive in the last round of the year with a chance of fighting for the title. His teammate Jordi Torres returns from the holidays with great motivation after the results obtained before the summer break. The Spanish achieved two podiums in the last two grands prix and will fight to continue his streak, despite the Red Bull Ring being a track that does not suit his style due to its long straights and hard braking points. The Openbank Aspar Team rider will work to be competitive from the start and complete a good weekend before heading to Misano, where MotoE will put the finishing touch to the season.

Kevin Zannoni: “I am really looking forward to racing again, the break has been too long. The Red Bull Ring is a track that suits my riding style very well and I want to fight there to get a great result. I have been very strong in other seasons in Austria, there I got my first pole and my first podium in the World Championship. It is a track with many hard braking points and slow corners, where you have to turn the bike in a short time. In Sachsenring I had a big crash and got injured, but I have been working every day in the gym to be 100% fit.”

Jordi Torres: “I have a lot to learn in Austria, especially how to stop the bike. It is a track with a lot of braking and acceleration, which does not suit my style. This year I lack speed on the straight and I will probably suffer in Austria. Fortunately, my teammate has had some great races here in the past and we will help each other. We will try to learn and get the best possible result.”
