The Openbank Aspar Team rider arrives in the last round of the year in Misano 44 points off the MotoE leader
MotoE is ready to put the finishing touch to its 2024 season and crown a new world champion. Misano is, once again, the chosen stage for the last round of the season in the electric category. Four riders arrive in the San Marino GP with the possibility of being champion, although there is a clear favourite: Héctor Garzó. The Spanish has won four of the last six races and has a 38-point lead. With 50 points at stake, Garzó is close to achieving his first MotoE crown. However, the other three riders who can also be champion will fight for the title until they exhaust all their chances. Mattia Casadei sits in second place; Openbank Aspar Team rider Kevin Zannoni is third, 44 points behind Garzó; while Óscar Gutiérrez is 49 points off the lead. In the Teams’ World Championship, the Openbank Aspar Team will also be fighting for the title. With two races to go, the team will for sure the sixth position it achieved in 2023 and now it lies in second position, just 18 points off the lead.
Kevin Zannoni is competing in his home race in Misano, which is an extra point of motivation for the Openbank Aspar Team rider. Zannoni wants to end his best season in MotoE, in which he has already achieved two victories and five podiums, on a high note. Despite the 44 points that separate him from Garzó in the World Championship, the Italian is confident of being able to close the gap with him as much as possible and finish in the best possible position in the standings. In Misano, the Openbank Aspar Team rider will fight to get on the podium in front of his home fans, something he has never done on that track in the electric category. His teammate Jordi Torres also wants to be in the fight for the podium at the San Marino GP. The Spanish has done great performances in Misano, where he won the title in 2021 on a weekend in which he climbed to the top of the podium, and this Saturday he will seek his first victory of the season. Torres arrives at the last round of the year in seventh position in the World Championship, just nine points behind the sixth-placed rider and 23 off the fifth, a gap that he will try to close in order to finish the year among the best in the standings.
Kevin Zannoni: “In Misano I am competing at home and that is an added incentive. It is my best year in MotoE and this weekend I hope to return to the top of the podium and enjoy the end of the season with the team.”
Jordi Torres: “I had some great races in the past in Misano and I won my second MotoE title there. Unfortunately, unlike last year, I am not under any pressure this year. We are going to fight with our weapons to get the best possible result. We will work to end the year on a high note.”
