Kevin Zannoni and the challenge of regaining the lead

The Openbank Aspar Team rider arrives in Assen second in the standings, six points behind the leader

Openbank Aspar Team rider Kevin Zannoni faces the Dutch GP with a clear objective: to regain the MotoE lead. After a three-week break, the electric category held this weekend the fifth grand prix of the season and, after the good performance exhibited in the first half of the year, Zannoni is one of the favourites. The Italian has achieved two victories and two other podiums in the first eight races of the season. Thanks to these results and his great consistency, as he has scored points in all the races held, Zannoni arrives in Assen second in the World Championship, just six points behind the leader, Mattia Casadei. The Openbank Aspar Team rider will fight to reduce this difference in the two races in Assen, a track that he likes, and once again take the lead in MotoE.

His teammate Jordi Torres returns to a track where last year he scored two podiums. The Spanish, who started from pole position, finished second in both races of the Dutch GP. In the second race, he even fought for victory until the end with Matteo Ferrari, from whom he ended only 78 thousandths off. This weekend, the Openbank Aspar Team rider will fight to repeat the great result of 2023 to make his debut on the podium this season.

Kevin Zannoni: “After this three-week break, I can’t wait to get back to working with the team and competing. I have worked hard to start the second half of the season in the best possible way. Assen is a track that I like and that adapts to my style. We will do our best to continue with the good results.”

Jordi Torres: “We start the second half of the season after a necessary break, and we do so with a double race week. First, we will visit Assen, where last year we managed to get on the podium, but we missed something in the fight for the win. We are going to work from the first session to arrive in strong shape in the races and to be able to travel to Germany the following week with very good feelings."
