The Power Electronics Aspar Team rider finished third in the first race at Assen and, with fourth place in the second race, he is now 20 points off the new leader
The MotoE Dutch Grand Prix saw Andrea Mantovani as the star of a weekend in which the Italian secured a victory and a podium finish that catapulted him to the lead in the electric category. Mantovani, who started from second place on the grid, took advantage of Mattia Casadei's crash while leading the first race of the day to take the win. In the second race, after Casadei served a penalty, the Italian was overtaken by Alessandro Zaccone, the winner of the second race. Jordi Torres and Lorenzo Baldassarri shared third place today at Assen. With these results, Mantovani has 74 points, thirteen more than Zaccone and twenty more than Power Electronics Aspar Team rider Jordi Torres. The next MotoE race week will be the Austrian Grand Prix in mid-August.
Power Electronics Aspar Team rider Jordi Torres returned to the podium today, having also finished third in France, which allows him to climb positions to third in the standings. The Spaniard, who was fifth overall before coming to Assen, looked strong from the first practice session and was only a tenth of a second away from pole. Despite this, Torres did not give up this Saturday and started both races with the goal of fighting for a great result. In the first race, he managed to finish third, less than a second behind the winner. In the second, after a start in which he lost three positions, the battle with other riders to catch the race leaders prevented him from fighting for the podium again. Even so, the Power Electronics Aspar Team rider was just two-tenths away from repeating a podium and ended in fourth place. His teammate Kevin Zannoni arrived in Assen second overall, three points behind Casadei, and leaves the Netherlands in sixth, 28 points behind the lead. Lack of grip and contact with other riders have led to eighth and eleventh positions in the two races at the Dutch track. With the combined results of both riders, the Power Electronics Aspar Team continues to lead the MotoE team standings with 100 points, three more than the next team.
Jordi Torres (3rd / 4th): “Today has been really good. We've shown that we have confidence, speed and power. I'm able to adapt to different situations, especially when they're adverse. I'm still eager to fight, and that's been evident throughout the weekend. I still think I need a little more speed on the straights to catch up the other riders and get closer to the one in front of me. As for the race pace, we're doing well. In the first race, the ideal would have been to close the gap with the first and second riders in the early laps, and the second race was all about survival. On a circuit like this, where the braking distances aren't so long, you notice the vibrations more and you don't ride so much on instinct. Overall, I think it's been very positive. We want more, and I think we can fight for the world championship this year. Why not?"
Kevin Zannoni (8th / 11th): “It was a difficult day because yesterday we couldn't find a better set-up. In the first race, I really noticed the lack of grip on the rear tyre. I got off to a good start, but then I lost a few positions and finished eighth. In the second race, I felt better on the bike, and I was stronger and faster. At the start, I had a collision with another rider and lost acceleration. Later on, I went off the track, and in such a short race, it was impossible to make up any more positions.”
