The Openbank Aspar Team rider will defend the MotoE lead from sixth position, while Jordi Torres has not been able to pass Q1 and will start from fourteenth
Alessandro Zaccone has achieved the first pole position of his MotoE career at the Italian GP. The Italian rider has been fastest in qualifying in Mugello and has set a time of 1:55.466, which is enough for him to start tomorrow from first position. Lukas Tulovic has ended three tenths behind Zaccone's time and will start from second place. The first row of the grid will be completed by Héctor Garzó, who has finished third, four tenths off Zaccone.
Openbank Aspar Team rider and World Championship leader Kevin Zannoni has achieved the best qualifying result so far this season in his home GP. After getting straight to Q2, the Italian has set the sixth best time and will defend the lead from the second row of the grid. Zannoni has finished on the podium in three of the last four races after making great comebacks and tomorrow the objective will be the same, although from a better starting position. His teammate Jordi Torres has not managed to get through Q1 and will start from fourteenth position tomorrow. The Spanish has shown great pace in free practice, but has not been able to complete a good lap that would allow him to enter directly into Q2. In qualifying, the rain has conditioned the first session and the Openbank Aspar Team rider has not made it to Q2. The electric category will contest two races tomorrow in Mugello and Torres will fight to come back from fourteenth position.
6th Kevin Zannoni 1:55.983 (+0.517): “We have done a good job all day. Qualifying has been good, although we have been a little short of fighting for the first row. We will start from sixth place and it is the best grid position of the season. Tomorrow, I think the races will be in group and we will give everything to get a good result.”
14th Jordi Torres 1:57.099: “It has been a complicated day. The first free practice session has been positive, but in the second session, although we have shown a good pace, we could not complete a clean lap. In qualifying I have only been able to do one lap, it has started to rain and the conditions were very difficult. Maybe I have been too cautious. We will start from fourteenth position and the races will be tough, but we will fight to come back.”
