The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider has finished just 38 thousandths off the ten fastest riders. David Alonso has suffered a double crash and has ended up seventeenth
The Moto3 riders have kicked off the Indonesian Grand Prix with Deniz Öncü as the fastest. The Turkish has set the new track record with a time of 1:39.855, with Diogo Moreira and Jaume Masià finishing behind him. The Spanish rider has made his first appearance as the leader in the standings with the third best time of the day. Masià has finished the first practice in sixteenth place after suffering two crashes, but he has recovered quickly in the afternoon and has closed the first day in Mandalika in the top 3. His main rivals for the title, Ayumu Sasaki and Dani Holgado, have ended fifth and sixth, respectively. Tomorrow the small category riders will have another opportunity to keep progressing on a track that is still not in the best conditions.
Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider Ryusei Yamanaka has opened the Indonesian Grand Prix in eleventh place, just 38 thousandths off the top 10. In the afternoon, the Japanese rider has improved his morning time by more than a second and has started the weekend with a good feeling. His teammate David Alonso has not had an easy day in Mandalika. The Colombian has finished seventeenth after suffering a crash in the first practice and another in the second. Alonso has not been able to set a good lap time as he has gone to the ground when he was riding with the new tyre, but he has worked on his pace for the race and has felt comfortable on a new track for him. The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar riders look forward to find better track conditions in the last practice session and set a time that will guarantee them a direct access to Q2.
11th Ryusei Yamanaka 1:40.650 (+0.795): “It has not been an easy day because the track conditions have not been the best. We keep working in the same line and with good feelings. I have missed a little bit of grip on the front of the bike, but I think we will get it if the track conditions improve. In tomorrow's practice we will try to be faster and work on some details. We need to be competitive in every part of the circuit and we'll focus on that.”
17th David Alonso 1:40.920 (+1.065): “I have enjoyed the circuit because it is very fast, but it also has some important braking. The track is a bit dirty and you can crash if you don't follow the good line. That has happened to me when I have ridden with the new tyre. I think we have done a good job, we are competitive and tomorrow we will try to not make mistakes looking for a good lap time.”
