The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider fought for pole position until the very last moments and will start the race from sixth place, while his teammate Dennis Foggia will start from twelfth
The Indonesian Grand Prix qualifying session was a real challenge for the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders. Máximo Quiles finished the day with the sixth fastest time after fighting for pole position, while his teammate Dennis Foggia was twelfth. The fastest on Saturday was Adrián Fernández, who took pole position and the track record. David Muñoz, second, was less than a tenth off his compatriot. Australian Joel Kelso will complete the front row of the grid in third place.
The second day at the Mandalika circuit offered a busy qualifying in the Moto3 category. Previously, Máximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia completed the second and final free practice session of this Grand Prix, in which both were able to make their final adjustments before fighting for the top positions on the starting grid. With both riders qualifying directly for Q2, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team duo took to the track in search of a good lap to start tomorrow as far ahead as possible. Máximo Quiles regained his good form despite yesterday's heavy crash and, although he is still suffering from some physical discomfort, the rookie in the lightweight category managed to lead the standings. The Spaniard fought for pole position from start to finish, but in the final minutes, heavy traffic on the track prevented him from improving his time. Quiles will therefore start from the second row, in sixth place, after setting his best time of the weekend: 1:37.363. Dennis Foggia, on the other hand, had some difficulty closing the gap on the fastest riders. The Italian, who improved his times by more than a second compared to the first session of the weekend, continues to make progress and set his best time on the last lap. His 1:37.707 will put him in twelfth position tomorrow and he will start his 150th race in the world championship from the fourth row.
6th Máximo Quiles 1:37.363 (+0.341): “The qualifying session was a bit strange because there were a lot of riders slowing down and they got in the way of my fast lap. I'm a bit annoyed about that. The feeling was good, although on the second run I struggled a bit more because of the tyre compound I was using. After the heavy crash I had yesterday, it was a bit difficult to get back to the good feelings, but this morning I showed from the first lap that I've got it back. I have some discomfort in my elbow, but sometimes you have to suffer a bit and grit your teeth. I love this circuit and we'll enjoy it tomorrow.”
12th Dennis Foggia 1:37.707 (+0.685): “I'm improving in every session, but I still have work to do. We need to make some more adjustments for the race because we're a bit far from the top positions. This afternoon we'll analyse all the data carefully because tomorrow it will be a very long race. The tyres wear out very quickly after three laps, so I hope I can find the key to doing a good job and at least be in the top 10.”
