SAN MARINO GP

Máximo Quiles, best of the rest in Misano

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider finished second in the San Marino Grand Prix after fighting for victory until the final metres

Máximo Quiles earned his seventh podium finish in his first season in Moto3. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider crossed the finish line in second place after fighting for victory until the final metres and coming back from the third row of the grid. The Moto3 rookie stood up to leader José Antonio Rueda, who secured his eighth victory by just a tenth. Adrián Fernández finished third in the San Marino Grand Prix, while Dennis Foggia finished thirteenth in a difficult race for the Italian.

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team was back on the podium at the San Marino Grand Prix. Máximo Quiles completed a great race, in which he was forced to make a great start from the third row to catch up with the leading riders. In the early laps, the Moto3 rookie moved up to third position. However, he saw the first and second place riders increase their lead by almost a second. Quiles gave his all to close the gap and, halfway through the race, found himself involved in an intense battle for the podium spots. With five laps to go, the group was reduced to just four riders and, just before the final lap, Máximo Quiles moved into first position to start the last lap in the lead. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider fought side by side with the Moto3 leader until the end, trying to maintain his position until he crossed the finish line in a hard-fought second place and secured his sixth seventh podium in his first year in the category. His teammate Dennis Foggia did not have the same luck in his home Grand Prix. The Italian did not feel comfortable in the Misano race and was unable to finish the weekend as he would have liked. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider lost a few places in the race and wanted to secure a position in the points, crossing the finish line in thirteenth place.

2nd Máximo Quiles (+0.113): “The last corner was difficult, but at least I lost the victory to the championship leader. He has three years of experience in Moto3, I think that's normal and I have to learn from it. It was a very difficult race, at the beginning the leading riders pulled away and I had to give it my all. On the last lap, I tried to get into first place to see what would happen. I was already having problems with the front tyre because I had to push hard at the start to close the gap, and when I caught up with the group, everything became more complicated. In the final part, I gave it my all, but I saw Rueda's tyre close by and didn't know what to do. I opened up a little because I didn't want us to touch, and Rueda made an incredible overtaking manoeuvre, which is very difficult to do at that point. I want to congratulate him on this race, and also my team, of course. We did an incredible job, and I'm very happy with this result.”

12+1 Dennis Foggia (+14.820): “It was a very difficult race, in which I didn't feel good on the bike. I lost a lot of time in some sectors and it was practically impossible for me to attack, so I decided to minimise the damage. I'm angry because it's a circuit I love and it's my home Grand Prix. Thanks to the team for all their work, we'll keep giving it our all in Japan.”
