Jerez welcomes Quiles and Morelli for the first time

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders will make their debut at the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit with the aim of continuing their great streak

Máximo Quiles has had the Spanish Grand Prix weekend circled on his calendar since last year, when an untimely injury prevented him from competing in Qatar and Jerez. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider makes this Friday his debut as a World Championship rider at the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit, a track that’s celebrating its fortieth anniversary and which has hosted World Championship races uninterruptedly since 1987. The ‘Cathedral’, a place of pilgrimage for Spanish fans, opens a new phase of the World Championship this weekend, a succession of twelve consecutive races on European soil that will help to determine who the contenders for the Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP titles will be.

In the Moto3 category, Máximo Quiles has already staked his claim in the first three races of the year. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider is the only Moto3 rider to have reached the podium in Thailand, Brazil, and the United States, giving him a 23-point lead in the standings. His victory in Goiânia could easily have been followed by two more wins in Buriram and Austin, circuits where he narrowly missed out on first place by a combined margin of 59 thousandths of a second. Now, he faces his debut in Jerez with the spotlight on him and the goal of working on his race pace on Friday and Saturday to shine on Sunday in the fourth race of the year. His teammate, Marco Morelli, arrives for the first time this season at a circuit where he has already competed and where he also completed two days of testing in February, something he hopes will work in his favour this weekend. After the race, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders will return to the track next Tuesday, April 28th, for a test day at the Andalusian circuit.

Máximo Quiles: “We’re happy after the first races of the season; they’ve been good weekends, but we can’t relax. I’m motivated to race for the first time in Jerez, with all the fans. It will be special, for sure. We’re going to continue working as we have done in all the races so far, focusing on our own pace to arrive ready for the race.”

Marco Morelli: “We arrive in Jerez after three weeks without racing. I feel rested and eager to tackle these first races in Europe, where things start to even out a bit more, on circuits I already know. Racing in Jerez will be special, and I hope to have a good weekend. We already have data from this year's tests, but the goal will be to improve session by session anyway. I think we're ready for a good weekend.”
