Foggia and Quiles secure Q2 positions on Friday

CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team will fight for the top positions on the grid as Dennis Foggia and Máximo Quiles finished in thirteenth and fourteenth position

The Grand Prix of the United Kingdom got underway on Friday with rookie Álvaro Carpe leading the standings. The Spanish rider was two tenths ahead of the second fastest rider, David Almansa. British rider Scott Ogden completed the top three, almost half a second behind, while championship leader José Antonio Rueda was sixth. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team riders achieved their first objective of the weekend and qualified directly for Q2 on a day in which the strong wind made it difficult to ride. Dennis Foggia took thirteenth place and Máximo Quiles made the cut in fourteenth.

First day started with clear skies at Silverstone, which is unusual for the British circuit. However, low temperatures and wind were present from early in the morning. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team riders took to the track in search of a good setting that would allow them to set a good time. Dennis Foggia didn't have the best feeling in the morning, although he was able to get into the top 10 in free practice. In the afternoon, the Italian continued to work on improving his lap times and managed to lap a second faster than in the morning. Despite not being 100% comfortable, Foggia secured a Q2 spot by finishing in thirteenth position with a time of 2:10.285. His team-mate Máximo Quiles faced his first UK GP laps. The Spanish rider took advantage of the morning session to improve his feeling on used tyres and work on his pace. In the afternoon practice, Quiles suffered an early crash that prevented him from riding in the first minutes, but the CFMOTO Valresa rider was able to return to the track to continue fighting to avoid Q1.  On the penultimate lap, Quiles set a time of 2:10.338, which was enough to achieve his goal.

12+1 Dennis Foggia 2:10.285 (+1.181): “The important thing is that we are in Q2 and that's good for Sunday’s race position. It's difficult for me to be fast in the corners and this track is very fast. We need to improve things to make up some time. We made some changes, but it didn't help me much. This afternoon we will have a good look at the data to see where we can make that step. Tomorrow we hope it won't rain and we will fine tune the last details of the set-up. Our goal is to be faster and we hope to be at the front.”

14th Máximo Quiles 2:10.338 (+1.234): “I really liked the circuit from the beginning. In the morning practice I rode with used tyres and I felt good. In the afternoon I crashed after the first few laps and I was a bit nervous, but when I went out again, I was able to do a good lap. I don't even know how I did it because I wasn't as comfortable as I was in the morning. A lot of riders were waiting for a reference on track, but I kept going and managed to get through to Q2. There are weekends in which we will suffer a bit more. We have to stay there and find the point to keep improving a couple of things we are missing.”
