The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has led both practice sessions and has broken the track record
The first day in the MotorLand Aragón has been an adaptation and learning day for the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team. Although the Moto3 riders know the track because they have competed here in smaller categories, the recent resurfacing plus dust on the track have complicated the start of the GP. In addition, since 2022 the World Championship has not visited MotorLand, so many riders have not competed here for two years. One of them is the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider David Alonso. However, that has not been a problem for the Colombian, who has been competitive from the first time he has gone out on the track. In fact, in the morning practice the World Championship leader has been the fastest, setting a time of 1:59.683. In the afternoon, the temperature has risen significantly and the grip has improved, which has allowed the riders to improve the times. Alonso once again has led the session and has been able to improve his time by more than two and a half seconds, to 1:57.052. With this register, Alonso has lowered by 14 thousandths the previous track record, held by Jorge Martín since 2018. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has finished two tenths
ahead José Antonio Rueda, second today, and half a second ahead of David Almansa, third today. Alonso is pretty satisfied after the first day at MotorLand, he has felt comfortable with the new tyre and is confident in his one-lap pace for tomorrow's qualifying.
His teammate Joel Esteban has also completed a positive day in MotorLand. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has finished with the twelfth best time and is in provisional Q2 positions, which is one of his goals for the weekend. Esteban's feeling on the bike has been good, especially with new tyres. From one session to the next, the rookie has been able to close the gap with Alonso by more than two tenths. Esteban knows what he needs to improve in order to take a step forward tomorrow and get a good position on the grid.
1st David Alonso 1:57.052: “It has been a very positive day. It has been a long time since we came to this track. In the past, I had not been particularly good at it and today I have been able to improve in different aspects compared to the other times I have ridden here. With the new asphalt, we are going to suffer in the race, the choice of tyres will be key. With the new tyres you can go really fast, but in the race the pace will be different.”
12th Joel Esteban 1:58.231 (+1.179): “I am very happy with today, we have done a great job. In the first session, the track was not in the best condition due to the new asphalt. We have not ridden much, there was a lot of dust and dirt. Despite the lack of grip, I have had a good feeling and it is something that can help us for the end of the race. In the morning, I have already set a good time and I knew where I had to work on to improve. In the afternoon I have gone out with used tyres, I have completed quite a few laps, but I was not comfortable and I made several mistakes. Then, I have put on new tyres and I have felt very good. We still have to work on some aspects because I am not completely comfortable with the bike, but I am sure that tomorrow we will take a step forward.”
