Máximo Quiles will start the United States Grand Prix from the third row of the grid, while Morelli will start from the sixth
The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team faced a challenging qualifying session at the Circuit of the Americas. Máximo Quiles set the eighth-fastest time of the day after being one of the riders with the best pace in the category. The Spaniard was unable to beat his compatriot Álvaro Carpe, who took pole position and improved the track record by more than a second. He will be joined on the front row by Casey O'Gorman and Valentín Perrone, second and third respectively. Marco Morelli also didn’t feel at his best and will have to start from eighteenth place tomorrow.
The second day of the Grand Prix of the United States featured a thrilling battle for the Moto3 pole position. Earlier, the CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team riders had the opportunity to prepare for Q2 during the morning session, though in cooler temperatures than the previous day. Both Quiles and Morelli improved their times and worked on race pace, especially the Spaniard, who has been one of the most consistent riders. After both riders secured their spots in Q2 yesterday, Quiles and Morelli worked to secure a good position on the starting grid. The Spaniard chose to ride alone once again and follow his own strategy. The battle for the front row in Moto3 was so tight that, despite Quiles setting his best time of the weekend (2:12.996), he finished four tenths behind third place and will start tomorrow’s race from eighth. The Spaniard is confident he can take another step forward this Sunday and fight for the top spots once again. Marco Morelli also faced a difficult qualifying session. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider was unable to improve on his morning time in the final minutes and was relegated to eighteenth position with a time of 2:14.646. The Argentine rider is adapting well to the demanding Circuit of the Americas and still has room for improvement, so he is confident of making a good start in the race that will allow him to catch up to the leading group, although he will have to complete a long lap during the race for disturbing another rider.
8th Máximo Quiles 2:12.996 (+0.889): “I knew it would be very difficult to get pole position today while riding alone, but I would have liked to start a little further up the grid. The lap time was good, but I lacked a bit of concentration and wasn’t 100% comfortable. This morning, I had a great pace and felt very comfortable. It’s part of the sport that other riders follow you; I don’t mind if they do, but it’s dangerous when they wait inside the racing line. This afternoon I improved my lap time even further; I pushed to get ahead but it wasn’t possible. On this track it’s tricky if you don’t have other riders to reference, because it’s a very long circuit. Hopefully tomorrow’s race there will be with a small group, but this is Moto3 and anything can happen. I’m going to give it my all; if anyone wants to come with me, I’d be delighted to fight until the very last corner.”
18th Marco Morelli 2:14.646 (+2.539): “This morning we made some changes to the bike and they worked well. The qualifying could have gone better or worse, but on the second run I made the mistake of not making it to the finish line in time before the session ended, so I wasn’t able to do a final flying lap to get a good time. I need to improve my feel on the bike because tomorrow will be a long race. I’ll try to do my best to move up the field and score more points for the standings.”
