Fifteen years and two days after the 2009 Indianapolis GP Saturday, the Aspar Team once again takes pole in the lightweight and intermediate classes in the same GP
On August 29, 2009, during the Indianapolis GP, the Aspar Team shone on Saturday in both the 125cc and 250cc classes. First, it was Julián Simón, fastest in the lightweight class, who took pole. Minutes later, it was Mike di Meglio's turn to shine. The French took pole ahead of Marco Simoncelli, Hiroshi Aoyama and Héctor Barberá, three of the riders who fought for the intermediate class title until the end of the season. Since then, the team had achieved 43 pole positions more, over fifteen different seasons, with riders such as Nico Terol, Jonas Folger, Pecco Bagnaia, Aron Canet, Sergio García, Izan Guevara, Jake Dixon, Jordi Torres or David Alonso. But never, until today, August 31, 2024, fifteen years and two days later, had achieved two pole positions on the same day again. Pole position 44 was set this afternoon by David Alonso, with more than four tenths of advantage over José Antonio Rueda. Pole position 45 since that day Poleman 45 since that day has been Jake Dixon, who has done a final lap at the end of the session with which he has overtaken Diogo Moreira and Aron Canet.
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has shone in the Aragón GP qualifying and has achieved his first pole position of the season. Dixon had qualified on the front row in both Jerez and Germany and had taken four podiums, including a win at Silverstone. Pole position was the last challenge he had to fulfil this year, something he has achieved today. The British has gone straight to Q2 thanks to yesterday's time, as the final free practice session has been held on a wet track. In qualifying, Dixon has gradually improved his time until his last attempt, when he has set a time of 1:51.636, a register that allows him to start from pole position. Tomorrow, Dixon has a great opportunity to close the gap with the riders that lead World Championship. Moto2 leader Sergio García will start from twenty-eighth place after a crash in Q1, while his teammate and second-placed rider, Ai Ogura, will start from sixteenth position.
CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider Izan Guevara has set the fifteenth fastest time in qualifying and will start from the fifth row of the grid tomorrow. Guevara has achieved his goal of going straight into Q2. However, in qualifying he has not managed to complete a clean lap. The Spanish rider is working hard to improve in the upcoming qualifying sessions to be able to start from the front of the grid in order to be able to fight with the leading group from the race start.
1st Jake Dixon 1:51.636: “I do not usually get great results in qualifying, but today the team gave me a great bike with which I have been able to get pole position. Tomorrow there are many riders who have good chances of doing well. We have to keep calm and enjoy riding the bike to get a good result.”
15th Izan Guevara 1:52.887 (+1.251): “We were doing a really good work this weekend, but we have been unlucky in qualifying. I have almost highsided on the first lap, a mistake that has prevented me from getting a good time. On the next lap, a rider has disturbed me. When I have put on new tyres a rider it has happen again with another rider. I have not managed to get a good time and tomorrow we start from fifteenth position. Our race pace is good, we just have to improve on Saturdays, because we start from far back and that conditions us on Sundays.”
