Third and fourth row for Holgado and Alonso in a tight qualifying session in Italy

The CFMOTO European Privilege Aspar riders secured ninth and eleventh positions respectively after setting their best times of the weekend

The second day of the Italian Grand Prix once again offered a thrilling battle for pole position in the intermediate category. Brazilian rider Diogo Moreira was the fastest and secured pole position by a margin of 86 thousandths of a second. Aron Canet finished second, and Albert Arenas will complete the front row in third place. The Moto2 riders had to give their all to secure a good place on the starting grid for Sunday, and the CFMOTO European Privilege Aspar ended Saturday on a high note. Dani Holgado finished ninth, just three tenths of a second off the reference time, while David Alonso took eleventh place, also less than half a second off Moreira's time.

After the race simulation that both Holgado and Alonso carried out in this morning's free practice, the Colombian rider had to go through Q1 in the afternoon. Alonso, who is gradually regaining his form, was able to secure a place among the top four to accompany his teammate in Q2. In the second qualifying session, the CFMOTO European Privilege Aspar riders returned to the track focused on setting a good lap time that would allow them to start from the front of the grid and make a good start, something that will be essential, especially in the early laps of the race. Dani Holgado closed the gap on the fastest riders, looking for a place among the front runners. On the penultimate lap, the Spaniard set a time of 1:50.099, the ninth fastest time in the category and three tenths of a second off pole position. At the same time, David Alonso focused on continuing to improve his times until he achieved his best time of the weekend, a 1:50.195, which earned him eleventh position on the grid. Both riders will face tomorrow a difficult race, in which they are confident of returning to the line of good results.

9th Dani Holgado 1:50.099 (+0.354): “I'm very happy with how this second day at Mugello went. We did a great job with my team to achieve a good qualifying result. In the morning, I did a good race simulation and the feeling was very positive. I think I can have a good race tomorrow, although the most important thing will be to have fun.”

11th David Alonso 1:50.195 (+0.450): “I'm still lacking a bit of physical fitness and pace, although I felt a little better today. Let's see how the race goes tomorrow. We have to get off to a good start because there are a lot of metres to the first corner and you can gain or lose a lot of positions. The tyres are going to wear out quite a bit and I think there are going to be two races: the first part, which will be strong, and then a second part with worn tyres. The leaders are a bit far ahead, but we'll try to be in the fight there.”
