Jake Dixon and Izan Guevara are looking forward to begin 2024 with great expectations
The wait is over. The Moto2 World Championship gets underway this weekend with the Qatar Grand Prix. The intermediate category returns to action with 21 Grand Prix and 30 contenders ready to fight for Pedro Acosta’s throne once the current Moto2 champion has made the leap to MotoGP. Fermín Aldeguer, Joe Roberts, Manuel González, Tony Arbolino and Aron Canet are just some of the names of these contenders. They were the fastest riders in the last pre-season test, which ended last Friday at the Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto, although with twenty riders almost within a second, it is mission impossible to pick just one favourite.
After finishing fourth overall last year in what was his best Moto2 campaign, CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon is another contender for the title. The Briton, one of the most experienced riders in the category, heads into 2024 with great confidence and hopes to start with a good result in Lusail.
His teammate, Izan Guevara, has a big challenge ahead of him. The Spanish is contesting his second year in Moto2 and, after a debut season full of learning, his goal is to take a step forward. In Jerez, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider completed almost 200 laps and was just one second off the best times in the category. Guevara has shown a great progress during the preseason and is confident to start fighting with the leading group.
Jake Dixon: "The Qatar GP circuit is a track that I like and last year we had a good weekend there. I'm not sure what to expect this weekend, we have some changes from last year; we will see what we can do, but we will give our best. We will set realistic goals, we will take it easy and we will fight for them".
Izan Guevara: "I'm looking forward to my second year in Moto2, now I have more experience. I have trained a lot this preseason, I have prepared myself very well and we are happy with the preseason tests. We are going to enjoy the first race and see if we can get a good result. Hopefully, we can fight to be in the top ten”.
