Rain disrupts CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team's plans

David Alonso and Dani Holgado will have to go through Q1 this Saturday after today's session was halted by rain while they were working to improve their times

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders did not finish the first day of the Czech Grand Prix as expected. Heavy rain during the afternoon practice session prevented Dani Holgado and David Alonso from improving their times, and they finished sixteenth and eighteenth respectively. American Joe Roberts was the fastest in the intermediate category, more than half a second ahead of second and third places, which on this occasion went to local rider Filip Salac and Spaniard Manu González.

This morning's free practice was a good introduction for Holgado and Alonso to a new track. Neither of them knew the Brno circuit, so the first session of the weekend was very important for them to get their references and start adapting to the track. The Spaniard looked particularly comfortable as he set the third fastest time, while his teammate also secured a place in the top 10. In the afternoon practice session, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team took to the track ready to continue their progress, but keeping an eye on the sky. The Moto2 rookies tried to set a good time in the early laps due to the threat of rain, which made an appearance with 25 minutes to go before the end of the session. The heavy rain that began in the final stretch forced the session to be stopped when almost all the participants were already in the garages. As a result, Dani Holgado finished sixteenth with a time of 2:00.325 (one tenth off the cut-off) and David Alonso eighteenth (2:00.487), meaning that both will have to fight for a place in Q2 tomorrow.

16th Dani Holgado 2:00.325 (+1.293): “We tried to set the fastest time as soon as possible because we knew it could rain, but it didn't work out well enough to get into Q2. We were short on dry laps to make a real step forward, but the conditions were the same for everyone. We know the work is well done, but we need to improve because I still don't feel completely confident in the dry. Tomorrow we'll have to continue like this to try to get into Q2.”

18th David Alonso 2:00.487 (+1.455): “We did six dry laps, too few to fully understand the track. It's a very fast circuit, I liked it, but we didn't have enough time to fully understand some things before the rain arrived. We'll see what the weather is like tomorrow, but whatever happens, we'll keep working.”
