Dixon will start from eleventh while Guevara will start from thirteenth after both have gone straight to Q2
World Championship leader Sergio García has achieved the first pole position of his career in Moto2 at the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya. The Spanish rider will defend the leadership of the intermediate category tomorrow from the first position on the grid after achieving a time of 1:41.894. Fermín Aldeguer has finished second and Celestino Vietti, who has had to go through Q1, has been third, both two tenths off García. The differences in the Moto2 field are really tight: in qualifying, just half a second separates the top eleven riders, a group that includes the CFMOTO Inde Aspar rider Jake Dixon.
The British has achieved the eleventh best time and has ended just 0.564 off from pole position. In the last practice session held this morning, Dixon finished third, just 76 thousandths off García's time. However, in qualifying, the sensations have not been good for the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider and the mistakes he has made in the last lap have prevented him from getting a better position on the starting grid. His teammate Izan Guevara has finished thirteenth, a result with which the Spanish is not entirely satisfied. After qualifying directly to Q2, Guevara hoped for a better result but he aims to make a comeback in tomorrow's race.
11th Jake Dixon 1:42.458 (+0.564): “We have made some changes for qualifying and I have felt slightly better. But then, before the second run, we have struggled a bit to start the bike and then I have not felt too good to push on the first lap. That has left me with only one last flying lap, in which I have made too many mistakes. We should be higher than we are. Let’s see what happens tomorrow.”
12+1 Izan Guevara 1:42.697 (+0.803): “We start from thirteenth, a little far from what we wanted and what we could achieve today, but tomorrow we will fight to recover positions. We went directly to Q2 and we were happy with the time and the sensations of the morning.”
