Holgado's first podium of the year on a bitter Sunday for Alonso

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider finished the Thai Grand Prix in third place after the race was stopped several times due to numerous crashes

Dani Holgado achieved his first podium finish of the 2026 season in Buriram. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider faced a very difficult Sunday after the race was interrupted twice by crashes involving other riders, including his teammate, David Alonso. The Spaniard finished third in a sprint race that was reduced to seven laps. Manu González was the winner of the opening Moto2 race, which on this occasion was also decided by thousandths after a battle with Izan Guevara, who finished second.

Dani Holgado approached the Thai Grand Prix race in good spirits after a great weekend of work. The Spanish rider started from the front row of the grid, which allowed him to take the lead after a multiple overtaking manoeuvre in the first few corners. However, an early crash involving his teammate David Alonso and other rivals forced the race to be stopped after only three laps. After the restart, Holgado remained in first place, although the race was stopped a second time and was finally reduced to seven laps. This race distance hurt the Spaniard who, although he tried to maintain a strong pace to close the gap, barely had time to move up positions and fight for the victory. He finished in third position to claim his first podium of the year. His teammate David Alonso was taken to the medical centre after the crash for further examinations, which ruled out any possible fractures. The Colombian is in pain after the heavy crash, but he will return to competition stronger than ever.

3rd Dani Holgado (+0.454): “The race was a bit crazy, to say the least. There were a lot of stoppages, and that breaks your concentration. It hurt us because my strong point was my pace over long distances, as we had worked hard on that aspect over the weekend. I got off to a great start and gained a half-second advantage, just as I had planned to manage it later on. Other riders were able to take better advantage of the opportunity to push the limits in a few laps, but I learned a lot. It wasn't to be, these things happen and the riders' safety comes first. I'm glad everyone is okay. For our part, we will continue to work on the same basis as last year, working from less to more. You can't always win, we saw that today, but I'm also happy with third place because achieving it in these conditions means that we are ready to fight for the championship in the future.”

David Alonso (crash): “I'm fine and fortunately I haven't broken anything. I was very scared because it was a very heavy crash. I felt the impact and when I was in the gravel I couldn't move. I felt like I had no control. I'm quite sore all over, especially my left foot, right leg and right shoulder, but I'm fine. Now I want to rest and recover.”
