SAN MARINO GP

Holgado remains among the fastest

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider finished third on the first day of the San Marino Grand Prix, with his teammate David Alonso in thirteenth position

CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team continues its positive run of results and today, at Misano, secured direct passage to Q2 with both of its riders. Dani Holgado, third today, was once again one of the fastest riders in Moto2. His teammate David Alonso was thirteenth, although only half a second behind the leader. Celestino Vietti set the pace in front of the home crowd, although the leader of the intermediate category, Manu González, followed him closely, with just 97 thousandths between them.

This morning's free practice was a good introduction for the rookies in the intermediate category. Holgado and Alonso faced the challenge of adapting to the Italian track with the Moto2 bike, which was no easy task. However, both riders went from strength to strength with confidence and concentration on their riding. The Spaniard finished in an impressive sixth position, while the Colombian was eighteenth. In the afternoon session, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders had a good starting point to fight for Q2 spots. Dani Holgado was the fastest in the category, riding below the track record at that point. In the final minutes, he pushed to keep his position, but in the end, two riders improved on his time, and his 1:34.855 placed him in third, two tenths off the reference time. On the other side of the garage, David Alonso focused his efforts on riding alone to improve his feelings with the bike. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider significantly improved on his time from the morning and was able to secure a place among the top fourteen. Finally, the Colombian finished thirteenth with a time of 1:35.206 and tomorrow he will be in contention for the front positions on the starting grid.

3rd Dani Holgado 1:34.855 (+0.205): “It was a good start to the weekend. I felt good and I think I adapted well. I started to get into the pace in the second part of the session because we're on a track that changes a lot from Moto3 to Moto2, and I needed more laps than usual to get my head around it. In the second session, I had a firm and constant pace, and that's when I really felt comfortable. We're feeling good again, like in Barcelona, even though it's a completely different weekend. It's difficult to always stay in the front positions because we're so close together. I feel very confident for tomorrow's qualifying; we'll try to do just as well as today, but what matters is the work that goes into the time we've achieved.”

12+1 David Alonso 1:35.206 (+0.556): “What I liked most about today is that, despite the fact that it wasn't easy riding on this track after changing from Moto3 to Moto2, I focused on myself. Especially in the afternoon, I didn't look for references or stop on the track; I just thought about seeing how far I could go. I was able to understand the bike better and see how to improve the set-up. Today I think we put in quality laps and, even if it's harder for me, I think it's the way to get closer.”
