The CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team riders started the first day in Sepang strongly, finishing within a tenth and a half off the fastest
The CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team riders began to lay the foundations for a positive Grand Prix in Malaysia, with two practice sessions in which both finished in the top six. Both Dani Holgado and David Alonso closed the first day in Sepang a tenth and a half off the fastest rider of the day, Manu González. The Spaniard needs to stop losing points to Brazilian Diogo Moreira, who got to within two points of the leader in Australia. On this first day in Malaysia, Moreira finished tenth, four tenths off his closest rival, and behind riders such as Jake Dixon, Albert Arenas, and Barry Baltus.
Dani Holgado and David Alonso finished Friday in Sepang in fifth and sixth place, respectively. For Holgado, who had finished fourth in the morning, it was a positive day, more thanks to the work done with his technical team than to the result itself. The CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider completed quality laps, setting a consistent pace, especially in the second half of practice. This secured the Spanish rider a direct pass to Q2 and a chance to fight for the front of the grid. In a very close session, in which up to twenty-one riders finished within a second, David Alonso finished just behind his teammate, just three thousandths off. The Colombian enjoyed his first laps with the Moto2 on the Malaysian track, where he only needs to understand the line in some of the corners to achieve a time in qualifying that could allow him to face Sunday's race with greater confidence.
5th Dani Holgado 2:04.320 (+0.154): “We finished the day feeling very good, happy with the result, but even more so with the work we did. We completed quality laps to try to improve the line, because on such a wide track it's difficult to get a reference. Tomorrow, we have another day to keep moving forward and to lap as much as possible to prepare for the race, regardless of the track conditions.”
6th David Alonso 2:04.323 (+0.157): “I like this circuit on the Moto2; it's very wide and long and forces you to adapt your style throughout the lap. It's a track designed for a big bike, so I really enjoyed it and tried to flow. I still need to understand some corners well to be able to improve a few tenths. I'm also pleased that we were consistent today.”
