Jake Dixon has not taken part in today's sessions after deciding with the team to put his health first and give him a longer recovery
Izan Guevara will be the sole CFMOTO Inde Aspar representative in Portimao after his teammate Jake Dixon has decided, together with the team, not to compete in the remainder of the Portuguese Grand Prix. The British rider had returned to competition this weekend after being out of the Qatar GP race due to a serious crash in free practice. Despite setting the seventh best time on Friday, just half a second off the fastest, Dixon and his team have decided to put his health first and give him a longer recovery before the Americas GP.
In this way, Izan Guevara will be the only rider defending the CFMOTO Inde Aspar colours in tomorrow's race, in which he will start from twenty-second position on the grid. Guevara had to fight in the first qualifying session, in which for a few minutes he occupied some of the positions that gave access to Q2. However, he has not been able to improve his time in the same proportion as other riders and has finally finished eighth in the session, with no chance of qualifying for Q2. In this second session, the fastest rider has been the Spanish Manuel González, with a new Portimao lap record (1:41.514). Fermín Aldeguer and Aron Canet complete an all-Spanish front row and Alonso López and Albert Arenas continue the good results for the country in the second row. Only Joe Roberts, fifth, breaks the Spanish dominance in the top positions.
22nd Izan Guevara 1:43.109: “It has been a complicated weekend; we lack information after not having been able to complete one of yesterday's sessions. We are working to improve the chatter on the front, but tomorrow we are going to fight to get into the points zone."
