Dani Holgado earns his well-deserved maiden podium in Moto2

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider showed great form and crossed the finish line in second place to achieve his first podium in the intermediate category

The Austrian Grand Prix saw Dani Holgado's first podium in the intermediate category. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider finished in second place after a great performance throughout the 23 laps. The Moto2 rookie started the race from pole position for the first time and tried to challenge Diogo Moreira, winner of Sunday's race. Italian Celestino Vietti joined them on the podium in third place. David Alonso was unable to finish the day as he had hoped after crashing out with six laps to go while in third.

Dani Holgado faced the thirteenth race of the season from pole position for the first time in his debut year in Moto2. The Spanish rider got off to a good start, focused on maintaining his position and keeping up a good pace so as not to fall behind his rivals. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider did not drop out of the podium positions throughout the race and even tried to catch up with the leader, Diogo Moreira. However, Holgado preferred not to take excessive risks given the high pace of the race and wanted to secure second place. The Spanish rider crossed the finish line in second place to secure his first podium in the intermediate category, after coming close to achieving it on several occasions. His teammate David Alonso also put in a solid performance in Austria. The Colombian, who started from fifth position, went from strength to strength and climbed up the rankings to finish in the top three. Alonso even tried to catch up with his teammate, but with six laps to go, a crash eliminated any chance of the current world champion securing his second podium finish of the season. Despite the bittersweet result, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider was able to draw some very positive conclusions for the next race, which will take place next week in Hungary.

2nd Dani Holgado (+2.375): “After fighting for so long and coming so close to achieving it, I've finally got my first podium. It's a tough category and both the team and I are working hard to be at the top. I worked very hard during the summer break to iron out the details we were missing and take this step in the second half of the season. Getting on the podium was one of my goals for this season, and now that I've achieved it, it's a weight off my shoulders. I tried to pass Moreira, but he had much more pace than me, so I took advantage of his references. I'm not putting any extra pressure on myself or setting new goals; I just want to keep moving forward and working as I have been.”

David Alonso (crash): “I've been able to learn a lot at the front of the pack. At the beginning, it was a bit chaotic, but I saw myself with a chance to win, and in these situations, it's important to breathe and know how to wait. My desire got the better of me, and I had gone into that corner a little too fast a few times, until finally I couldn't save it. I want to apologise to the team for today's result. Now we have to focus on Hungary to adapt quickly to a new circuit.”
