Brilliant race by Alonso to achieve back-to-back podiums

The CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider secured his fourth podium finish of the season after crossing the finish line in second place, while Dani Holgado was fourth

The CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team riders put in a magnificent performance at Sepang despite the extreme conditions. David Alonso secured his second consecutive podium finish and repeated the second place he achieved in Australia after battling with his teammate Dani Holgado, who finished fourth. Today's victory went to Jake Dixon and Barry Baltus completed the podium in third place. Diogo Moreira, who finished fifth, becomes the new leader in the intermediate category, nine points ahead of Manu González, who suffered a crash with two laps to go and failed to score any points despite rejoining the race.

Due to an unexpected change in schedule, the Moto2 race started after the MotoGP category. As a result, the riders in the intermediate category faced even higher temperatures than expected, which made tyre grip difficult and left no room for error. Sunday's race was finally contested over eleven laps, after a crash forced the race to be stopped on the first lap, with no consequences for the rider involved. Dani Holgado started from pole after securing his third pole of the season in Malaysia. The CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider remained in second and tried to keep up with the leader. The Spaniard worked hard to maintain his position and avoid any mistakes that would cause him to lose more places. With four laps to go, he was overtaken by his teammate and fought for the podium, eventually falling to fourth place and crossing the finish line one tenth second behind third place. His teammate David Alonso has gone from strength to strength and is showing great maturity in his first year in Moto2. The Colombian made a good start and remained in the top three from the moment the lights went out. The CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider managed his tyres and rode at the limit, waiting for the right moment to overtake his teammate and finish in second place, securing his fourth podium of the year, his second in a row.

2nd David Alonso (+2.035): “It was a race where the most important thing was to finish safe and sound. In recent weekends, I've been getting good starts, even in the two we had to do today because of the red flag. I was very active in the early laps and tried to ride calmly, breathing on the straight, although it was difficult because of the heat. I had several scares, but I didn't hold back because there were only eleven laps. I can allow myself to have more and more of these situations because if I don’t fall, it means I have more control over the bike. This sport is our way of life, but sometimes we get a little detached from reality. I've been in contact with the teams to find out how Rueda and Dettwiler are doing, and I was able to go out on the track knowing their condition, which gave me strength. This race is for them, and I just hope they come back strong.”

4th Dani Holgado (+4.358): “It was a pretty tough race. The conditions were very different from what we had during the weekend. This situation was the same for everyone, so I tried to adapt as best I could, but I had some difficulties stopping the bike in the last part of the braking. I gave it my all and tried everything to get on the podium. I'm taking away a good lesson for the last two races: we've learned how to manage those moments of discomfort with the tyre, something I hadn't been able to do for a long time. I'm happy with the progress and how we've improved session after session. Thanks to the team for their incredible work in helping me throughout the weekend.”
