The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider will once again start from pole position, while his teammate David Alonso qualified eleventh
Dani Holgado continues his streak of good results at the San Marino Grand Prix. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has once again secured pole position and, as was the case at the last round in Barcelona, he has done so by breaking the circuit's absolute record. Holgado thus takes pole position in Moto2 for the second time in a row. The rookie in the category has beaten such experienced riders as Celestino Vietti and the current leader Manu González, who finished second and third respectively. David Alonso finished in eleventh position, three tenths behind his teammate.
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team continues to perform well at the Misano World Circuit. The riders in the intermediate category, who secured direct entry into Q2 yesterday, started the second day eager to fight for the top positions again. Dani Holgado and David Alonso worked with the team to continue adapting to a circuit that both describe as very demanding in terms of Moto2 riding. After completing this morning's free practice with good feelings, both approached the afternoon's timed practice with great motivation. Holgado managed the session perfectly and in the final minutes set his best time of the weekend to take first place. His 1:34.216 will not only allow him to start from pole position in Sunday's race, but has also set a new Misano record. On the other hand, his teammate David Alonso also had a positive qualifying session on Saturday. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has dedicated all his efforts on improving while riding alone, something he was able to demonstrate in the afternoon session. The Colombian achieved his best time of the weekend, 1:34.561, and secured eleventh position. Despite being somewhat behind on the grid, this result is only three tenths of a second off Holgado's pole position, demonstrating the level of both riders in their first year in the intermediate category.
Pole Dani Holgado 1:34.216: “I didn't expect this pole at Misano. It's a very difficult circuit with Moto2, I can go fast riding alone, but I knew I had to do the lap following someone if I wanted to cut those tenths that make the difference. It was a good lap, I wasn't sure I could do it, but this gives me a very good boost for tomorrow. The race will be long and fast, there isn't as much tyre wear and it will be 100 per cent from the first lap. It will be important to stay calm, we were able to do a race simulation that went well and I'm sure we'll enjoy it.”
11th David Alonso 1:34.561 (+0.345): “Today I gave it my all in qualifying, everything was very tight and you had to be very precise. This weekend is very fast and it wasn't easy for me, but I focused on myself and on bringing out the best in me. The goal for tomorrow is to enjoy myself and observe other riders who are being very precise on the track because I think it will help us in the race. It will be important to be focused at the start and try to be consistent to gain more experience.”
