The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider finished the first day of the Brazilian Grand Prix in third place, securing him a spot in tomorrow’s Q2
David Alonso and Dani Holgado have enjoyed the Brazilian circuit on Brazil’s return to the world championship. The Colombian was one of the riders who adapted most quickly to the track and set the third-fastest time of the day, three tenths of a second behind the fastest, who on this occasion was Tony Arbolino, whilst second place went to Manu González. Dani Holgado, on the other hand, did not feel completely comfortable on the bike and will have to go through Q1 tomorrow.
The start of the weekend in Goiânia was marked by the large amount of water on the track. The riders in the intermediate class put their skills to the test on a track that was completely unfamiliar to all of them. Dani Holgado improved as the session went on and, in the morning, just missed out on the top 10, whilst his teammate David Alonso was only able to compete in the second half of the session due to a technical issue with his bike. In the afternoon, the session took place in dry conditions, but with numerous patches of water throughout the circuit, which made riding difficult. Furthermore, the threat of rain was ever-present, particularly in the final minutes. David Alonso made the most of every minute and showed great pace, which allowed him to briefly lead the standings. The Colombian set his fastest time on the final lap, a 1:24.075 that placed him third, three tenths off the best time. In contrast, his teammate Dani Holgado did not quite feel comfortable riding on Friday. The best Moto2 rookie of 2025 failed to qualify among the top fourteen, as his best time, 1:25.214, placed him in twenty-first position, meaning he will be forced to compete in Q1 tomorrow. However, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider is confident of achieving his goal and fighting alongside his teammate for a good position on the starting grid this Sunday.
3rd David Alonso 1:24.075 (+0.366): “After the crash in Thailand, I’m feeling physically fine; there’s been good progress over the last few days and I didn’t have any discomfort today. I’ve been able to ‘dance the samba’ freely, so I’m happy. In the afternoon we had to dodge the patches of water and play around to see where it was dry. I struggled a bit at the start, but in the end I managed to turn it around to set a good time. It’s going to be a very physical race because there will be a lot of laps, so we’ll have to stay very focused. We’re still working on improving a few things: the Friday afternoon session always gives me a bit of trouble, but we’re on the right track. Moto2 is a class where you have to work hard; you have to push really hard to stay at the front. I really liked the circuit: it has some very fast sections and other slower, kart-track-style parts. I would have loved it to be a bit longer because it’s great fun.”
21st Dani Holgado 1:25.214 (+1.505): “I found it a bit difficult to get comfortable today and be competitive. It’s all part of the process; sometimes you have tough days, but we also learn a lot from them. This afternoon we’ll keep working hard to try and improve tomorrow and make it through to Q2.”
